Despite fire, Northeast Portland's Garden Fever will re-open Saturday
11/14/2008
Portland, OR - A coffee pot fire caused about $5,000 in damage this morning at the upscale nursery and gardening supply shop Garden Fever in Northeast Portland.

The blaze broke out at the business at Northeast 24th Avenue and Fremont Street shortly after 9 a.m., said Lt. Allen Oswalt, a Portland Fire Bureau spokesman.

Employees were able to knock down the blaze before fire crews arrived, containing smoke and flame damage to the lobby area, Oswalt said.

However, the shop won't be opening today , he said. "The fire extinguisher put a fine white powder over everything," Oswalt said.

However, manager Marcia Westlund said Garden Fever plans to re-open Saturday morning. "It's going to be a sunny weekend, so we have every intention of being open," she said.
